For the second summer in a row, Avondale Presbyterian is thrilled to host, Children’s Defense Fund Freedom Schools summer program on our church campus. Freedom schools partner with community sponsors, parents, young adults and community to educate children and encourage reading.
The Freedom schools program provides critical summer and after-school enrichment through a model curriculum that supports children and families around 5 essential components
1)High quality academic enrichment
2)Parent and family involvement
3)Civic engagement and social action
4)Intergenerational leadership development and
5)Nutrition, health and mental health.
Freedom School programs foster environments that support children and young adults, allowing them to excel and believe in their ability to make a difference in themselves and in their homes, schools, communities, nation and world.
In addition to lending our facilities to this valuable program, Avondale Presbyterian Church has contributed $10,000 to the program and donated countless materials to further the summer curriculum. Church members are preparing and providing breakfast each day, volunteering for afternoon events and reading to the students.
Please contact Lisa Elliot Lewis for additional information or if you would like to volunteer.
