Make a Joyful Noise:  Music at Avondale

Think about coming to visit a rehearsal.  No experience is necessary for handbells, children’s choir, worship or sanctuary choirs.  We’ll teach you all you need to know and support you throughout the learning curves!  Say yes when you’re invited!  Or better yet, don’t wait to be invited!

Adult Choirs

Have you ever wondered about the workings of Avondale’s choral music?  You see familiar faces every week of the year leading the congregation’s song and offering anthems to the Glory of God.  These singers come from trained and untrained musical backgrounds – all with the gift of service and all with the understanding that they can learn, contribute and worship together through music.  The spirit and camaraderie of these groups is a core element of Avondale.  We have a lot of fun as we prepare to lead the music each Sunday. Children’s Choirs

We love to hear children singing at Avondale!  There are children’s choirs for kindergartners through fifth graders. We meet on Wednesday nights as part of our Avondale Adventures program for 10 weeks in the fall/winter and 10 weeks in the spring.  We do a lot of singing each summer for the week of Avondale Bible Camp too!  Be on the lookout for announcements about the beginning of Avondale Adventures!  Bring your child for fun, fellowship with children his/her age and singing.  Contact Lynn Wilkerson lbwilkerson@att.net

Handbell Choirs

Avondale has two five octave sets of Malmark bells and a three octave set of Malmark chimes.   We have two active bell choirs that enrich our worship services.  New ringers are always welcomed!  The Avonbellers practice on Wednesday nights, September through May and play at least monthly in church services.  It is not a requirement to read music or have prior experience with handbells.

Teen Ring, the youth handbellers, practices on Sunday night before youth fellowship.  The ringers commit to a semester of playing September – December / January – April).  Each semester group normally plays twice in church and has a special fellowship event.  Contact Nadja Sefick-Earl:  704-522-1149

Instrumental Musicians

From time to time during the year, instrumental musicians bring and added beauty to the music we hear during worship.  They accompany the hymns, play special liturgical music for anthems, preludes or offertories and are often heard as soloists with the choir or organist.  This group comprises a great blend of youth and adults!  We hope you’ll consider lending your skills and talents to this great group.  Rehearsals usually occur on Sunday mornings as needed.  Contact Eleanor Ramey: 704-366-2236
