About Us
Welcome to Avondale Presbyterian Church! We are a community of believers dedicated to spreading the love and teachings of
Jesus Christ. Our church is a place where people from all walks of life come together to worship, learn, and support one another.
Feel free to explore our website to learn more about our church and the various activities and programs we offer.

Our History
In 1944, local Presbyterian leaders decided that the growing Charlotte community needed another church. They selected a site at the edge of town. World War II was ending and materials were scarce, so W.H. Belk, the founder of the department store chain, agreed to donate materials from an abandoned schoolhouse near Waxhaw.
A small chapel was built and services began in 1945 with 52 members. The name “Avondale” was chosen because at the time the church sat on Avondale Avenue. It’s now known as Park Road.
Avondale has grown a lot since then, but that same chapel is still a vital part of our campus. We continue to be a church with a caring center and a vibrant ministry to each other and to those beyond our walls. Whenever we gather together to worship, serve, or study, we encounter the risen Christ in each other.

Who We Are
We are a community of people eager to grow our faith spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually. We grapple with God’s Word, try to understand God’s plans for our lives, find comfort in God’s grace, and celebrate the joy of God’s love. We recognize that close relationships can nudge and encourage faith, so we seek to know each other, not only by our names, but by the different gifts and talents behind them. We are affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and believe that we’re made whole through the grace of Jesus Christ. We welcome all who want to deepen their faith or are curious about Christianity.
Our Mission
At Avondale, our mission is to share the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ with love, humility, and boldness. Guided by Scripture and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are committed to building authentic relationships, serving our community with compassion, and creating spaces where all can encounter God's grace. Through worship, outreach, and discipleship, we seek to be a beacon of hope, truth, and love—inviting others to know Christ and grow in faith together.
